But what if that parallel world was the exact same as yours, but diverged only 20-50 years ago? Then the butterfly effect wouldn't have had that huge an impact.

The idea is that there's unlimited amount of parallel worlds, there are bound to be a shitton that's diverging only a short time ago from yours.

(And that way it's pretty convenient for a story to be written that's relatable to us)
