I'm not that pissed at Reddit. Running a social platform is expensive. developing one as well. costs are often covered by ads or premium members. But 3rd party apps don't serve those ads nor bring in new premium members. So thats a huge money drain. Paying for the API is reasonable. the price is negotiable.

I don't understand the collective anger and echos of opinions. Are people just that unable to see the other side and just follow the hateflow?

@osfast I think the hate is for outrageous prices. I've read somewhere that this is because Reddit is aiming at the AI-people, who want to use Reddit as a source to train their AI. In that case yeah, I can see those prices getting hiked up. The problem is that 3rd party apps for communication, not AI, don't get a chance anymore.

I wonder though, isn't Reddit kinda killing themselves with this? If less people use Reddit because the tools to post with are worse, isn't it less interesting for the AI-bros either?

@trinsec Well. Did Reddit confirm its for the Ai training? because that would make sense.
Still 3rd party apps also only cost Reddit money.

i stand by my statement: asking money is reasonable, the price is negotiable.

Weather Reddit is killing it self, only time will tell. I mean, twitter is also still hanging on.

@osfast Not that I know of, but they wouldn't want to admit that anyway. :) Not good for trying to sell themselves off to the stock exchange. ;) But it is the only plausible explanation I've ever read.

Oh and I don't really mind them asking money in itself, no. Just that the price is a tad... high. Just a teeny weeny tad high. :P

@trinsec
Twitter went "from it to shit" by going private
Reddit is going "from it to shit" by going public.
Make a difference, own Reddit yourself them. Buy some shares. (and become a redditors owned reddit)

@osfast Buy shares? Well, they are planning to make that possible... 😋 Which is probably the reason of their latest actions.

Once a company goes to the stock exchange, they will change for the worse. I've see that with almost everything so far, I hate this whole system because it won't be for the customer anymore, it will be for the shareholders.

@trinsec good argument.
The feddyverse is not a trade of goods and services.
We are not customers. We are users here.
We do chip in on server costs, because our data (sold via ads) is not the source of income for the platform.
its a nett neutral system
