Deposits on cans got introduced a few months ago in this country to eliminate littering.

The result?
Trash bins are ripped open in search for cans with a deposit on them, causing more littering.

Maybe this depends on where you live?

My colleague picks up roadside trash in his village, and he notices 90% less trash on the bike routes to and from the highschool.

I can imagine that homeless folks in a city will try to collect cans for money for food and a bed at the night shelter.
