I don't think Musk strived to become rich, his ambitions made him so.
@twotwenty Very few actually strive for wealth directly. What Musk wants is power, and wealth is both a cause and consequence of that.

I would argue that the ultra rich is filled with alot of inheritance and that the manager class, banking class, have many money lovers over other practical fields like military & engineering.
most self made billionaires are probably driven for money and power and the the practical fields secondary.. definately some mixture (not much is truly digital except interpretation)
and even fewer are driven by engineering and physics pursuits that require power and business to progress.
