I have to run more cabling around my house so server fun is on the backburner for now.
So... I decided to play around with #haikuos on a VM.
Holy shit has it advanced. I could even see myself using it as a bare-metal desktop OS!
The last time I used it was during the release of beta1, and it was OK although audio didn't work at all so I blasted it. But even just trying beta3 (a year old already!) the difference is astounding.
I can't wait for beta4 (which is supposed to come in like... a day or so) to see even more progress.

I've been compiling the same thing over and over again for days to find a weird hardware-specific bug. For an outdated, completely irrelevant #sparc machine.
I don't think this is what I signed up for when I chose to make this my main server, but fuck it, I'm going with it.

Took a few more steps today towards having my own instance!
Would be taking more but my chosen server is sloooooooooooooooooooow.
That's half the fun though!

Rack server. Look, I don't mind the heat (quite nice at this time of the year actually), the space, the energy consumption... but the noise. Jesus. I was looking forward to turning it off for today just because I wanted some silence. Well, it certainly doesn't help that it's just a few feet away from me... Figuring out where to put it without annoying anyone else is hard. I guess I have to start running copious amount of cable everywhere to cover the networking side of things.
Well, at least I have an excuse to go take a peek at some used switches and UPSes. Nothing like looking at some gear that's way overpowered for my intended usage.
Time to cause myself some more problems.

Still want a ridiculously over/underpowered mini fridge though. You know the type.

What the hell, I spent HOURS fighting with the world’s dodgiest serial connection and I blamed it on the shitty RJ45-to-DB9 converter…
I just moved the cable from one connector to the other and it’s working perfectly fine now.
200% mad.

After years and years, I have finally... powered on my #sun server.

Also I can't figure out Minicom. Yay.

Goal: run own server at some point.
Difficulties: Dealing with a monolithic home ISP and lack of digital funds. Hopefully I can make some headway Soon™️.

With the birdsite saga, I’m sure having fun wrangling identities across sites. Damn, I should have consolidated at some point. And maybe be a little less impulsive at times?

I've seen a few [email protected] messages lately. The thing about these is that they have never shown up for actual email addresses, but for social media handles (including the Fedi).

The worst feeling is when it finally hits you straight in the face that whatever you are doing is incredibly tedious and mentally tiring and you wish you were doing anything else, but you can't stop doing it.
It's like it grinds bit by bit off your mind until the facade collapses, but now it's too late to turn back.

I've gotten a sudden desire for having standalone clients for websites instead of actually pulling up a web browser and having everything centralized there.
Just feel like there's something lacking when all there is is a web browser.
