@TruculentSheep new simpsons and old simpsons are very different. The show has definitely gone downhill and has needed to be canceled for awhile now.
But The Simpsons was originally clever and innovative and paved the way for other amusing entertainment. Not saying it should have gone on the way it has for so long. I stopped watching the show decades ago.

I watched it from the start. It wasn't as clever or radical as it claimed, though it certainly gave a good impression of being so, at least to begin with.
I remember the first time I saw The Simpsons, as part of The Tracey Ullman show. Nothing radical about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmsnJ78-EbQ

Channel 4 was playing far more radical animation late at night. It just seemed exciting to some because mainstream animation had been so staid for several decades.

The Simpsons was smug, self-satisfied and overrated in the early 90s too.
