America has an especially angry lower class cause it pairs a growing inequality of opportunity with the myth of meritocracy. It's easier to accept that your shitty life is just bad luck than to (falsely) believe the elites you hate deserve their lives & be correct to despise you.

Real median household income has fairly consistently gone up for awhile now. I think that people who are mad are mad mostly because of media sensationalism

@valleyforge

that chart looks good for the last 5 years it has data for ($10k increase) but there was a smaller increase in the previous 30 years. and I believe health care costs, college and housing have all gone up much faster.

I think Trump attracted many people who feel this economic pain, but because their patriotism is tied into America as a meritocracy, were turned off by the Bernie message. They're stuck unwilling to attack a system that is actually hurting them, because of ideology.

@wjmaggos I think the real part of real household income accounts for inflation including costs like healthcare, housing, etc..

@wjmaggos "Marginal year-over-year increase in Real Median Household Income" doesn't get nearly as many clicks as "Top 10 Unbelievable Reasons You're Living In A Dystopia!!!"
