I still very much think #xmpp is pretty darn good. Development on the IM standard has kept going. Even after the corps came in and gobbled mindshare for it. 😡 The protocol is still powerful and can actually support mobile usage. 📱
Servers have gotten considerably better. Hell #MongooseIM 6 has #GraphQL api now.🤯
What I'm saying, don't take #matrix as the only alternative we have to the proprietary ones.

sucks so much it's unbelievable!
I can't read an encrypted message sent to me when I was logged out and that's normal for some #matrix devs, they think that improve security for some reason. And don't get me started how slow loading some rooms are and some times they don't load at all.
#xmpp protocol it's good, I like the #movim project https://github.com/movim/movim
But I don't know how much trouble to manage/admin an #xmpp server yet.
@voidabyss I've ran both before. The resource hog of #matrix synapse is no joke. 🧯
With #xmpp servers, they trend to the set and forget it type. Plus are notorious for their concurrent capacity. Facebook, Google, and the rest didn't end up stealing xmpp just cause its name. 😅
I still use matrix, but I DEFINITELY do not host a server of one.
@voidabyss @zeab I already fixed that issue in one implementation of MSC3814, sadly the author hasn't updated the MSC in a while, so it can't be enabled everywhere yet :3
