Sure, there was fraud, but that was long ago, the SoL happened, and there were no charges filed.
Clearly, Your Honor, that is precedent, and since there were no charges filed, we have demonstrated that we have been lying with impunity for so long, that we should be able to continue to do so.
Not defending Trump, but there are a statue of limitation for a reason, so if someone brings a civil lawsuit(not criminal, different standards) claiming that some harm was done 25 years ago, you as a defendant you have to bring evidence, witnesses from 25 years ago to prove your innocence?

That is the point. You do not need to worry about dead witnesses if they continue to perpetuate the fraud, because there are always new witnesses.
