Protip: If your livelihood depends on your #Twitter follower count and you’re freaking out about the new promotion of alternative social platforms policy, then:

Get a domain name.
Spin up your own #fediverse instance using your own domain name. You can also pay someone to do it.
Federate said instance.
Make an account on said instance. Start using it.
Promote that new account on #Twitter and anywhere else.

If you completed these steps, congratulations! You now control your own social media presence.

Well, except that as I read it, that's pretty much the main way to violate those terms of service.

You can cross post all you'd like to keep follower count up, sharing content between platforms.

You'll just end up with a follower count of 0 if you lose your account due to directly violating the promotion rule.

It probably does goes against the new TOS but even if it wasn't against the TOS, given the way #Musk is making and remaking rules, it is probably academic.

What I will say is that to determine if it is actually driving traffic off #Twitter would require individual vetting each unique domain name and subdomain, which blurs the lines. Some single-user instances are as much blogs as they are social networks since Wordpress can federate with the #fediverse. Will federated blogs be banned too?
