@BarboftheBay They cannot even agree with their own party members. What chance do we them working with dems for the good of the country? Next two years will be a disaster for USA. They cannot govern, nor do they have any interest in governing. What a shit show!

@fevzi

I'm sure Republicans would be happy to work with Democrats to get the House open, but so far Democrats have made statement after statement saying they were eager to keep the drama going, voting alongside the Republican fringe choosing to keep the House closed.

That the Democrats have been voting unanimously only gives weight to their public statements.

Once there is actual legislation at stake that directly impacts constituents, hopefully there will be more pressure for them to work across the aisle, though.

@volkris I cannot imagine Dems doing anything to help MCarty without getting something in return. I think Dems signaled they are open to negotiate for speaker election. But I suspect McCarty and others would not want to do that due to how it looks to nut jobs on GOP side.

I have not doubt Dems would be more open for bipartisan talks, far more willingly than the GOP side who cannot even reach an agreement with fellow election deniers.

@fevzi

In return they would get a functional House that can pass legislation in support of their members especially as that would further isolate and disempower the fringe Republicans gumming up the works.

The razor thin majority really incentivizes Republicans to give Democrats what they want legislatively if nothing else to avoid having to deal with those clowns.

But that's a legislative process that can't start so long as Democrats are holding this line and forcing Republicans to listen to and agree to the fringe terms, which in the end harms Democrats in the long term since it will make it harder for their priorities to be reflected in legislation.

@volkris So we can blame Dems for the shit show!? GOP brought these lunatics in and now we are all paying for it. If we had a decent leader on GOP side those fringe elements would have been brought inline.

@fevzi

There is blame to go around, but YES, without Democrat's active choice to vote as they did, this would have been resolved right away with the extremists sent packing.

The vote would have been something ~200 to 20, and the twenty left behind, had Democrats not chosen to actively throw their votes in with the extremists against McCarthy.

@volkris Here is some blame: The POTUS commits treason (multiple times) and the worst one is with his final act, Jan 6 riots started by the president and the GOP members, having denounced those acts previously, start digging so deep for excuses and peddling more lies have done nothing to defend our constitution and our institutions.

@volkris The enormity of these acts are absolutely astounding and yet, GOP is still silent and still complicit. McCarthy is one of the most prominent enablers and a traitor himself.

Democrats are not going to help the traitor McCarthy, not at least without something in return. All of the GOP can go down in flames I'd not lift a finger and I hope Dems in the house do not either.
