Republicans always want to achieve “fiscal responsibility” on the backs of the country’s most vulnerable citizens, while leaving its most financially well off unscathed.

Tax cuts to the very wealthy is the most reckless spending there is while the GOP treats workers, even in red states, like parasites.

The debt ceiling should be separate, anyway. Biden is right not to negotiate on that.

There's a pretty good argument (as I recall; I don't have a link or anything handy) that we should just completely do away with the #DebtCeiling stuff. National governments aren't like household finances; carrying too much debt isn't a good thing, but that should be addressed while making the budgets, NOT held over the other party's heads when you want concessions.

Right, carrying too much debt should be addressed while making budgets, but the last Congress didn't do it, so what do we do now? That's the big question we are dealing with now.

The last Congress really let us down. This Congress is dealing with the mess left over.

Anyway, we cannot do away with the debt ceiling stuff since the debt ceiling is simply the word we use to describe the permission the legislative branch gives to the executive branch to borrow money. It is just the word for permission being granted.
