A reminder on the power of the #hashtag

* Posts, and replies, are discoverable across the
#fediverse
* Click on tags to find similar posts
* Build lists/filters based on the tags to manage your timeline
* Subscribe to hashtags; if you don't follow someone you will still see the post and expand your horizons

Embrace the hashtag. It works across the fediverse: on #Mastodon, #Calckey, #Lemmy, #Kbin, #Pixelfed, #Pleroma, .... and more

There's a whole world out there, waiting.

"Posts, and replies, are discoverable across the #fediverse"

Unfortunately that's not actually true, as I recently discovered. When you search for a hashtag you only see posts from other people on your server and anyone they follow or interact with. If someone uses the hashtag, but they are on a different server and no one on your server has interacted with them then you won't see that post.

@DrKathyChandler @bumble The interoperable aspects of #mastodon and the #fediverse are pretty obscure to the average user

Yea, my intentionally but kinda onto something take for this is that the fediverse doesn’t actually exist.

There are connections between servers that you will notice if you pay attention and can learn about if you have the time.

But it’s not a true federation of users. And it isn’t a universe that you can simply explore any more than other mainstream platforms were.

There’s infrastructure for me, maybe, but we’re not there. Nothing “just works”.

Well I'd say it IS a true federation, complete with that drawback :)

BECAUSE it's a federation and not a centralized system, that's how it works.
