I was hoping Bluesky would be much better than Mastodon in general as that might have forced faster changes and improvements over here, but seeing Bluesky struggling with fairly straightforward moderation of obvious racism - even though it has far fewer users than just the mastodon.social instance - doesn't inspire much faith and won't motivate the biggest part of the Fediverse to do better, technically or culturally (last one means racism, especially the anti-black kind).

Well I think it depends on one's definition of better.

Difficult moderation is an unavoidable issue of being a more distributed platform, or being more user focused, so it comes down to whether one believes it more important to be distributed or tied to administrators, who can do that moderation.

It comes down to where each of us might prefer that balance.
