Echoes of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 ring through my head as I read about states passing laws to ban abortion, restrict travel, create bounties, & criminalize support of women seeking abortions Justice Alito arrogantly believed he was end the abortion debate by overturning Roe, just as those in Congress believed they were ending the slave debate with the Compromise of 1850. Look how that ended.

What makes you think Alito thought he was ending the abortion debate?
I thought it was very clear that the Supreme Court ruling was opening the door to more debate, not less, as it actively engaged the debate within the states.
@jackiegardina yes, but Nina Totenberg often says things that don't line up with the public record so she's not exactly a reliable source.
@volkris Fair point. I should have said he suggested he was removing the Court from the debate. He said that “and far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”
