As we are looking around for GOP members willing to put democracy over autocracy and country over party, I remind you that Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger and Elaine Lurie sacrificed their seats because of their service on the J6 Committee.

Role models for what I want in a public servant.

@jackiegardina You have it backwards.

Cheney, Kinzinger, and Lurie lost their elections because they acted counter to what their constituents wanted.

If we're talking about democracy, these three acted in undemocratic ways, and democracy called them out on it, booting them from their positions.

@volkris Kinzinger didn’t run but under your point. And yes, you’re right, they lost their elections. Indeed, they took a stand knowing that they would lose their elections. They acted based on an oath to the constitution, not a desire to hold to maintain power. They earned my respect for doing that.

@jackiegardina so they put their own personal stands ahead of democracy.

Respect what you want.

But let's be clear that they threw democracy under the bus as they went on their crusade, even if you personally backed the crusade.

@volkris you and I will once again simply disagree. I see it differently than you on many issues. If my constituents want me to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power or state that the election was stolen when it was not - I will act consistent with the constitution and if they vote me out as a result so be it. But I won’t blindly follow the demands that run contrary to the constitution. My oath is to the constitution, not my constuients. OK off the work!

Follow

@jackiegardina but these representatives weren't doing anything to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power. That isn't at issue here.

Anyway, the point is that we should recognize that the reps were acting against democracy. Again, whether for the best or for the worse, we should at least recognize that as we judge them.
