I'm trying to think of how to cut back on social sharing of posts to my blog, Media Nation, and to What Works, the local news site I co-manage. I just can't share everything to six different platforms. The best way to make sure you don't miss anything is to sign up for free email delivery of new posts. And if you're old school, subscribe to our RSS feeds. #journalism #LocalNews

1. but I don't have one click access to boost an email or RSS item.
2. federation should mean you don't have to use multiple platforms.
3. we do need a reader app with #ActivityPub support.

Why not push for Fediverse apps with RSS support including one click access to boost articles?

Best of both worlds.

@volkris

sure but if I am going to use my #fediverse account to boost your #RSS feed item, why can't you just use #ActivityPub as well? then you can also boost my stuff or stuff I boost, and I can see/boost stuff you boost. I know people love RSS but lets move forward. what's the drawback? both are open standards.

@wjmaggos
1) ActivityPub may be overkill for what a person wants to do

2) If they just use ActivityPub they'll have trouble engaging with other networks that don't interface with AP

3) A person might already have content management systems in place that don't support ActivityPub

I could go on. Lots of potential drawbacks.

"Just adopt my standard" is a bit unrealistic in the real world.
