I've long suspected that conservatives were resting their accusations against Joe on evidence that was completely manufactured since, as far as I could tell, over these years far too few had taken it seriously enough to look into it and actually see if it wasn't completely counterfeit.

Today didn't do himself any favors in my eyes by addressing the press with a statement that confirmed that evidence that his attackers had been throwing around were indeed legitimate.

All of these are numbskulls who we shouldn't let anywhere near power.

@volkris

The Bidens, Clintons, and 0bamas systematically destroy evidence, so it is very hard to indict them; it is an Al Capone situation.

However, when there are enough circumstantial pieces of evidence floating around, it is clear who is guilty of wrongdoing.

I think this impeachment is silly. Time for jail for the guilty. But even more, tracking down the source of the corruption, as I doubt Sleepy Ten Percent For The Big Guy thought it up himself.

@amerika The problem with that is, at the moment Biden is in charge of the jails, so he's very unlikely to jail himself.

IF we assume these accusations are accurate, then impeachment is the first step to justice, getting those conflict of interests out of the way so that somebody can be sentenced.

And I'm not saying for sure that the accusations are accurate. I'm not taking that step. I am simply saying that you don't get jail for the guilty until impeachment is first accomplished, or loss of election, whichever.

@volkris

An investigation is needed. They will not find the smoking gun.

Then for political reasons they will go ahead with the impeachment. It will be defeated.

Summary in the press: Biden vindicated.

This is not a psyop, it is _political theater_.

@amerika it is political theater.

Sadly, we keep electing political actors (in the theater sense) and the general public doesn't know their civics well enough to realize that so much of it is an act.

We get the political theater that we vote for.

@volkris kudos on being willing to change your mind.

I just want his 2014 taxes investigated.

@volkris

NOONE should be let anywhere near political power.

@niclas @volkris but sadly, someone has to be in the Big Seat

if nobody's in the Big Seat, everybody's in the Big Seat (anarchy), and that does not end well

@Tertle950 Oh well the key is to elect somebody who is not a numbskull.

So I hereby announce my candidacy for whatever office we're talking about 🙂

(But seriously my main point here is, can we stop electing the same people? Even if we are electing people at random, if we stop electing the idiots, then we will randomly get better people)

@niclas

@volkris @niclas
> Even if we are electing people at random [...] we will randomly get better people

Oh hello, sortition. It's been a while since I've seen you discussed!

random citizen election is an interesting idea with surprising merits, and I feel like it should be discussed more
(even if only in comparison to current systems)

@Tertle950

Well it's a little bit off topic but I feel like bringing up: :)

I think one element of representative democracy that is under appreciated is the idea that we effectively hire people to spend their time studying issues so that the rest of us don't have to.

So I would never want to promote truly random citizen election (forcing people to leave their daily lives to go deal with policy decisions), but gosh, it's fun for me to think about random selection of people who volunteered to be considered for the positions.

It amuses me to consider a system where if none of the people on the ballot get 50% or maybe even more of the vote, then one person on the ballot is chosen at random.

But.... That's just a silly flight of fancy
