So, the latest news is Threads says they are planning to start testing some kind of ability to see Threads posts on Mastodon (and other Fediverse apps), but you won't be able to comment, and Threads users won't be able to see any Fediverse content.

They are calling this ActivityPub "integration" but, at least for now, it is only a one way street. You may be able to see into their walled garden, but Threads users are not going to be able to see you.

Follow

@mastodonmigration but that's not how works.

With the federated, instance-based design of this platform nobody like can stop people from commenting, other than stopping their own users from participating.

Basically Threads would be putting content into the system for free that we'd all be able to see and comment on, but Threads wouldn't provide its own users with the ability to see or interact with the comments.

Yes, we would absolutely be able to comment because for better or worse that's how the underlying protocol works.

@volkris

Thanks. Guess we will find out how comments work once the posts start showing up.
