Cue the GOP continuing to loudly supporting the 1st and especially the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution but not the 14th because that one is apparently woke.

@StarkRG their version only covers stuff you agree with don’t you know ? It’s 1st Amendment (R) it’s like a covid variant in that it’s mutated.
@thomasapowell For that matter, they don't defend *all* of the second amendment either. It's one poorly-written sentence and they've manged to get the Supreme Court to ignore the first half of it, the part about well-regulated militias. Not to mention that the original purpose of those well-regulated militias has been superseded by the existence of the National Guard and ubiquitous police (also not having to fight the natives for land), so the second amendment seems pretty unnecessary.

If the amendment is so poorly worded propose an amendment to fix the wording.
It's not that the Supreme Court ignored the first half of the sentence, it's that the first half didn't say anything compelling. Which, again, if that's your hangup, propose an amendment to fix it.
That's how that process works.
@thomasapowell but then the thing is, claims of hypocrisy are nice in theoretical, but when they impact the real world they involve real people hanging in the balance.
If you're being threatened with punishment hypocrisy is hardly something that's going to be on your mind.
So it really doesn't matter. The Constitution says what it says, and it can be changed if we want to, but we really don't care to change it at this point.
@volkris @thomasapowell I already proposed my fix: get rid of it, it's unnecessary. For some strange reason it's still there.
