#Activitypub is an open protocol. There could well be all kinds of players that start using it and joining the #fediverse - some will have all kinds of different ethos, ethics, be commercial and non commercial. There's no privacy here. It's mostly all public. Even DM's aren't encrypted. It may well end up just like email in that it'll be down to the power of filters to not keep receiving the unwelcome bits.
