US Politics

Sorry to toot about American politics, but it seems to creep into a lot of media coverage.

So, here we go: Donald Trump is a psychopath and Joe Biden looks so frail that a strong gust of wind could blow him over.

It's pretty confusing to me that both Nikki Haley and Dean Phillips are polling so low in the primaries.

@matt never be sorry to post about politics. It's often the only way we can vent about how horrible things are.

As for vs I recently heard a primary voter saying that they were going to vote for Trump because there's no way Haley could win the primary.

...

I hope you see why this is relevant. This person was voting for the guy because he didn't think the alternative would get votes. It was the dumbest, most idiotic position I've heard, but I fear that a whole lot of primary voters are voting based on that same motivation.

So maybe the results aren't so confusing so long as you don't overestimate the American voter.

@volkris This happens a lot in the UK. There was a time, when I lived there, that a poll of the nation revealed 30% or more of people would vote for The Green Party of England and Wales "if they thought they stood a chance of winning".

Which is another great example of what you are describing.

I think its a very common mindset of people who have lived under a First Past the Post voting system for some time.
