I actually think that any county where 2 adults working full-time minimum wage can't afford a place to rent should ban short-term housing. (Right now, I'm assuming that's most counties - it certainly includes where I live.)

I like AirBnBs mostly, but I think it's time to force the hotel industry to compete with places to stay that have some of the same amenities.

@pearlbear and that makes it even harder to afford housing.

Not only is rent high, but I can't even have the option of trying to make it easier to afford by renting the place out when I don't need it?

Regulations like these hurt the exact people they are supposedly trying to help.

@volkris How is it that banning short-term rentals decreases housing affordability? Every study I've seen suggests the opposite: that short-term housing decreases supply of long-term housing, thus squeezing long-term renters out of the market.

@pearlbear Like I said above, one effect is in cutting off a means for owners to be able to raise money to afford housing.
