@jfmezei So that image is from my weather app which is Carrot. I believe the weather data is sourced from Environment Canada though.

For live lightning updates I use this: lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#

It’s close to real-time and you can see roughly see where a nearby strike touched ground. It’s a lot of fun and augments the experience of a storm.

@heliomass During the Mulroney era, Environment Canada was changed and stopped issuing complete forrecasts because it could sell the data to 3rd parties who did issue such forecasts. For instance, Env Canada stopped issuing statemenst for farmers (growing degree days, horus of sunshine, probablity of more than 2mm of rain etc) who now had to pay 3rd parties for it.
