So after my most recent foray into the clusterfuck that is #israeliPalestinianConflict "discussion", I'm reassessing an old stance on the matter...

Technically, people who talk about #Zionism tend to be talking about specific parts of Israeli policy, but technically, it just means believing that Israel should exist... Which it already does, so it's a bit of a moot point?

Anyway, it's used a lot as a stand-in for Jews, or israelis, or some other group that really isn't getting to the heart of the matter, and I'm starting to wonder if that's happening more than I realize.

...and I'm realizing I can't think of any time that anything truly useful to the discussion has been said by someone talking about "#Zionists". It's almost always a veil for #antisemitism, or just randomly angry in general....

...and it really seems to upset a whole chunk of people who are used to dealing with constant veiled racism... so maybe it's not a good word for y'all to be using?

Just a thought.

@Raccoon well, what about the utility of "Zionist" also referring to non-Jewish people and institutions who promote the cause of Israel?

Seems useful to me.

There's also some nuance to Israel existing. You can get into issues of how large its borders should be and what sorts of governments it should have.
