Was about to hit twitler to congratulate Taylor swift on effectively setting off the pedophile #traitor the way he did a minute ago on his private social media, but this, here on the #fediverse , will have to do.

#Election2024 is abnormally close for half of it is led by a russian plant convicted felon who can’t be trusted for anything except lying, filling some depends, and selling out to the first handout offered to him. #Democracy is absolutely at stake in #america.

@EtherNRhum I mean that's a nice conspiracy theory you have there, but it really isn't realistic.

Half the country simply disagrees with the other half.

That's not Russians hacking the system or whatever you think is happening. That's just neighbors talking to their own circles instead of each other.

@volkris I see your point, and yes I exaggerated, but I also think if the land of the free was anywhere near free, it would be better educated, and capable of seeing a traitor when it’s got one to deal with, especially when he’s presenting himself as “the greatest of all times in politics” or some bnllshit.

@EtherNRhum yeah I think journalism has a huge amount of responsibility for the state that we are in right now. Journalism has done such a horrible job not only failing to tell people how things work, but outright lying to people, saying things that are simply false on a daily basis. Education has been completely corrupted.

But the land of the free is free, for what that's worth. The problem is that people, like you said, have been misinformed so they are freely acting based on bad information.

It's important to realize that the core of this problem is not Trump. He's the symptom, not the cause. We desperately need to fix education. Yelling about Trump is not going to make this better and in many ways it makes it worse.

@volkris “Qui ne dit mot conscent.”

Not talking about the fact that donnie is setting the bar way dangerously low for politics in any country isn’t good. I do agree with the rest of your comment, however.

@EtherNRhum because Donnie's not doing much at all. He's a loser. He really doesn't have nearly the stroke that people try to put on him, and so end up causing the exact level of influence that they are complaining about.

Donnie doesn't set the bar. When he goes out of line Republicans and conservatives rake him over the coals. He takes his marching orders from conservatives that come up with all this stuff far ahead of when he starts vomiting it out into a microphone.

Trump doesn't set the bar. That's the whole point. If you watch how that environment operates you'll see that the causality doesn't go that direction.

No, it's not good, but we can't fix it if we don't identify the problem that needs to be fixed.

@volkris hmmm… valid. Go on? What is this problem, from your perspective?

Follow

@EtherNRhum I would say a huge part of the problem is that vast swaths of America disagree on what the facts are, and so people seek solutions to try to bridge that gulf.

Trump came to political relevance as so many sought a useful idiot to fill that void. One bit of evidence of this is the studies showing that the groups that backed him themselves don't agree with each other. They just all wanted to find an empty vessel to use.

So it's an enormous problem that so many people have disagreements about the factual reality, and so far the US has not shown any real progress in trying to reconcile those misbeliefs within the population.

We can go farther down the rabbit hole into the causes for that, but the main point here is that Trump is an effect, not a cause. If you pay attention to his voters they tend to gravitate toward ideas sometimes weeks before he bothers getting around to expressing them.

They tell him what to say and believe, not the other way around.
