The Simpsons is widely seen as critical of nuclear energy. Its iconic depiction of a three-eyed fish was recently used by the Australian prime minister to instill fear in the nuclear debate in that country.
But... There's a few pro-nuclear messages in the Simpsons when you read between the lines:
Jobs - Nuclear industry provides the well paid jobs that allow an unsuccessful man to be the breadwinner for a family of five with two cars and a detached house. The American dream.
Safe- After 36 years / seasons the nuclear waste and safety issues at the local power plant have yet to cause a fatality. You may not feel it but you are safe.
Community - The nuclear plant is where Homer has met his closest friends, it's the heart of small towns like Springfield.
