I do understand, though, why people aren't too willing to come to the #Fediverse.

Even if we ignore issues like "what is an #instance and how do I choose one?" they will still run into issues like following a locked account and not being able to see older posts, just because they somehow don't sync with their own instance BUT they can also not see them in the "original page" because then they won't be logged-in to that instance and essentially this content will be out of reach...

Also, I just tried to see a "story" in #Pixelfed, and I have to admit this has not worked once. And my guess is, this is due to the nature of #ActivityPub and probably due to security and privacy considerations baked into the very essence of the #Fediverse - which I understand, but then the experience is so much bumpier that people will just go to an easier place, as long as it's available and not too full of crap (yet).

And I'm not even sure how searching and #hashtags actually work here, because I barely ever seem to find anything using either. Is this an issue with the way my instance is set up, or is this just how things are?

I am not very tech-savvy, but also a social network is probably not gonna be doing great if its users are expected to understand its guts.

@muiiio Yes, it really is instance by instance over here. Each one functions a little differently, and each one has a different view on the whole system.
