so tiring to constantly hear complaints about social media but never hear a good argument against #ActivityPub being the fix for it, except those that sound identical to people in the early 90s saying the internet will never take off. #SocialWeb

I'm old but was only a teenager back then. how did people successfully spread the good web gospel back then? we need that today. going around trying to get paid to set up websites?

@wjmaggos I'm really surprised you haven't heard those arguments since I see them plenty.

From questions about the technological design through questions about the centralizations on instances, which come with their own moderation problems, through issues with the general norms of the platform built on it, there's a lot of reasons ActivityPub isn't a particularly good fix for complaints against social media.

Even the fundamental concept of lack of central algorithm has led to users not feeling well served by the platform.

These complaints are not hard to find, even if they aren't obvious.
