I'm loving the fact that more people are finding out about the FediVerse, especially Pixelfed 
has been exploding loads!
I'm loving the fact that there are more snaps to enjoy, more places to "visit" through the lens of other FediVerse users!
But...
The Fedi is a place without any algorithms. The Fedi is a place that is welcoming to all. Which means there are a few "unwitten" rules (but many will definitely recommend these as guidelines) of "how to Fedi".
I will aim this Toot towards Pixelfed users, and Mastodon users that love to share snaps!
Please, include an Alt text!!!
There are many on the Fedi that are using screen readers. Just sharing a picture without Alt text makes it unaccessible to them!
I know alt texts can be hard... There is a hashtag #Alt4Me that people who love to write Alt texts follow... If you use that tag, chances are, someone will reply to your Toot with an Alt text. Remember, in Fedi you can edit your posts, so you can always go back to add the alt text to the image!
There is also a good bot account that can help you out. Check out @altbot for more information!!
Please try to make the alt text as accessible as you can.
Sharing a snap of your dog with the alt text "my dog" isn't really helpful. Sharing a snap of that dog with the alt text "a chocolate brown Labrador with greying snout, walking though a grassy area, sniffing happily" will mean much more to a person using a screen reader.
And, as there is no algorithm, please use hashtags!! People can find your posts with them, but... They can also filter the posts when they contain subjects that they aren't interested in. When using hashtags, be sure to use CamelCase, which means every word starts with a capital letter. This will ensure that the screen reader will know it's not just one big word!
Last but not least... Write a bit of text that accompanies the image. Not just dump an image without any context. The image may mean a lot to you, but without context it can be less interesting to others.

@PixysJourney No The Fedi absolutely does have algorithms, most importantly the chronological algorithm. And a lot of people don't think that algorithm is very good.
And it is also not as welcoming as you say. There have been so many giant disputes about who to allow and not allow. This is not a very tolerant platform.
We need to be honest about that stuff, especially if we want to change them. We can't fix problems that we don't acknowledge.
