A bigger question would be. What is really the function of the #Fediverse. Is it passive content consumption or curated passive content consumption. Or is it really for interaction of users? These knee jerk reaction from user in order to "control" what others say, do and think are really to ingrained in ourselves (Humans) and we will bring them everywhere we go.
I'd say the function of the Fediverse is to provide a communication platform.
How we communicate over that platform can be varied, with different people and communities using the platform in very different ways. Some passive, some active.
It's infrastructure. How we use it is up to each of us.
