Hey, I'm gonna put this out there now:

When the backlash of the true cost of LLM becomes critical and companies start having to bend to hire and rehire talent they cut because "AI is here and we don't need humans anymore"? That needs to come with tech worker unionization.

Start planning this now if you're in a position to. Quietly. You don't have the upper hand yet, but either you will soon, or we'll all be screwed. Choose optimism for this one.

And demand a big-ass signing bonus. If your employer knows they need you, you are in the driver's seat. At the very minimum, demand what you would have been paid for all the time you were out of work over this nonsense.

If I was a gub'mint employee who got DOGEd and then rehired, I'd have demanded a full year's salary up front to come back.

Problem is, unionization often enough interferes with demands that like.

I've seen it all too often. It sounds great until the details of implementation bite workers where it matters.
