One of my comments earlier included a comment about migrants being killed in the channel as a result of people smuggling.
Well it has now happened

27 people have died
they're coming for the social benefits
the west hopes to use them to pay taxes already owed
it's the usual comedy of errors of democracy
and diversity is still genocide
a few years ago 40+ migrants froze to death in the back of a lorry.
Regardless of why they are coming here, we need to crack down on people smugglers who don't care what happens to them once their money has been handed over.
I think we need to eliminate the reasons they come here.
Source: a century of trying to bust people smugglers at the US border has totally failed.
You'd have to go full Soviet to stop it.
Maybe the west should stop invading and bombing other countries and trying to impose their will.
We also need to sort out equality so that wealth and opportunity is shared to all.
Our problem is that when we don't invade and bomb, problems proliferate.
We should probably separate method from goal here.
Like, US foreign policy is ham-handed, even when it has good intentions.
@amerika Well we invaded iraq without a post saddam plan,
...another stunning American foreign policy success! Yep, good point, lol.
They had a case here a few years back where 40+ got roasted in a truck. In the Texas summer, if you don't have constant air conditioning, enclosed spaces are death traps.
The problem is that the coyotes get paid $10k+ per immigrant to bring them over, and so there's no shortage of coyotes.
It's like the war on drugs.
So yeah by clamp down can mean a number of different strategies. But Inequality is one.
I am agnostic on equality, not being a Leftist. This means that I await proof that it exists, is necessary, has benefits, etc.
However, the term we might want here is "differently situated"... meaning that immigrants have little, where our legal system will protect someone who brought them over.
@amerika Did they arrest the truck driver or a person responsible ? What was the punishment if any?
Yes, they arrested him and charged him with something or another, at which point he fled over the border (if memory serves).
It's the problem: you cannot really have justice when you have a foreign population that escapes your judicial system!
Now, if we wanted this to go away?
1. No free public school and school breakfasts and lunch
2. No EMTALA health care
3. No section 8 housing
90% of them -- at least -- would not come
Also... this is tedious but maybe you'll bear with me
They have to prove either knowledge of negligence
"The air conditioner was working the last time I looked at it" is often a killer here
Innocent until proven guilty.
Well yes, you need to fully investigate if nothing else to ensureit does not happen again.
In my view, it's always going to happen.
There's people here with enough to survive but no real wealth, and right across the border is piles of money being handed out by credulous morons brain-locked by democracy.
People are going to cross unless the cost of crossing is massively raised.
According to the Daily Mail it is 33 people.
Numbers are not even relevant here, ONE is too many.
