Not to rain on Nikki's parade, but i'm a realist - most people especially ones who weren't around for 1.0 are already trying to find another Twitter. "Simple" for many will still win.

But RSS is coming back - just a question of how much and in what potential new forms now that #opensource tech has progressed.

I should be able to follow RSS from mastodon, in fact I can follow my blog from here using RSS. so ideally any new implementation would be really compatible with the federated networks, ideally activity pub plug-ins can do that, but not everyone may be able to install that.
