It is essential that history is never forgotton or re-written as not to upset people. I don't see 1986 as 'old', to me that is recent, even the holocaust in the 1930s and 1940's may be a long time ago (before my time), the people alive at the time are getting less and less, doesn't mean that when there is no longer anyone alive who remembers, that we just stop telling or discussing what happened.
Please keep sharing.

I think a lot of people who fought in either world war 1 or world war 2, never spoke about it upon their return. So it is not just in Germany, perhaps there are different reasons for not wanting to talk about it.
However fast foward to 2022, we should be able to talk about it, but perhaps we need safe forums to do so.

Of course, one reason was that those that worked at Bletchley park were under the official secrets act and were unable to talk about what they had done.
@uncle6 @Jaden2 @zleap as someone from Germany I find it horrible how so often the terrible things our great-grandparents did are forgotten, because no one likes to remember how their family specifically was involved in the atrocities, and no one wants to pass on that knowledge.
