I want portable devices to have monochrome screens again. Is this too much to ask?
That would be good, would monochrome screens also be cheaper. ?
@zleap nah.. maybe only by a few bucks. Colour lcds are already dirt cheap.
@newt Ah ok, so it is more of a aesthetics thing, if that is the right term.
@zleap that too. But also, monochrome STN screens are totally usable with external lighting, especially when it’s bright.

I would also guess, given blue light affects sleep, this would be less applicable to a mono screen so may not have the same adverse problems.

@zleap “blue light affects sleep” is a contested claim. There’s a bunch of papers disproving it. I for one sleep like a baby.
@zleap also, I mostly mean devices that aren’t supposed to be looked at for more than a few seconds at a time. Like a music player.
Ah that makes more sense, I think it would work with screens attached to a telescope being able to switch between mono and red, would be handy, but that would need some research.;
@newt Ah ok, I know there are different settings on devices, For astronomy the night mode is red, for example.
