Look at this beauty that my wife found near the dumpster. What kind of society throws things like this away? Anyway, it's testing night!

This thing boots, and here's what's inside. It's a 33MHz 486DX with 8 MiB of RAM, plenty of ISA cards and a 540 MiB hard drive. This thing must have cost a fortune back in the day.

I had a 486 sx 33 back in 1993 it cost over £1000 I think.

That was with 4mb of Ram, a whopping 250mb hdd, no hdd, no sound card, no cdrom drive and dos 6.2 and windows 3.1

@zleap yeah, I would dream of a beast like this. Given the markings, CPU and motherboard this must have been from 1991. It seems that the hard-drive has been upgraded at a later date (1996 probably) and they doubled the RAM with 4 sticks that are different from the first 4. I'd wager this thing must have costed at least the equivalent of 3000€ back in the day

@gabrielesvelto

Ok I have an Escom leaflet here for some reason, prices end Jan 1996

A dx2 66i lowest cost was £479

This was at the end of hte 486 era, as most of the computers are Pentiums at over £1000,

@gabrielesvelto

Catalogue also had mobile phones

I should scan this thing in, it is now a historical record of the time I guess
