Israel-Hamas war live: Israel may have ‘security responsibility’ for Gaza for indefinite period, says Netanyahu; Israel marks one month since Hamas attacks

@zleap There's been talk of that for over a week, who will rule over Gaza. It would appear that Palestinians will not be given any say. Plus Israel almost certainly wants control; see:

@Miro_Collas

It seems that Israel would like to just displace 2.1 million people and take over what is now Gaza but ultimately the west bank.

The west will of course just let this happen, the middle east won't let it happen and there seems to be a Millions of people, not just Muslims who will quite rightly take that side.

@zleap The US will take the side of Israel, and it can and will exert pressure on Arab nations. But yes, I expect it will be messy

@Miro_Collas

I agree with the article you posted too, it is also about Oil and gasl I started to suspect that when it was announced isreal had granted BP drilling rights off the coast

@zleap Exactly! In the last decades, most conflicts boil down to money, and usually fossil fuels.
Sickening!

@Miro_Collas

Just try telling the general population that, I will add a link to my blog to the article you posted and also link back to the previous post about drilling rights.

@zleap I have a post with the linked pinned to my profile. Whatever helps to get it spread.

@Miro_Collas

It will be even more messy if we don't stop burning carbon, the worlds climate will collapse much quicker.

@zleap Very much so, tragically. But I see no *real* sign that anyone is working to do anything meaningful. Quite the opposite.

@Miro_Collas
What people like just stop oil are doing such as direct action, gluing them selves to roads, paintings in galleries, throwing paint on buildings, seems to be having the opposite effect.

While protests work in some cases they would be better off sharing information, being part of discussions and helping with the actual research.

Blocking people getting to work or worse getting to a hospital to see a critically ill family member isn't going to help anyone.

@zleap @Miro_Collas I agree but that happens because the authorities doesn´t react to a major threat to humanity. Its caused by desperation....

@zleap People have tried talking, and reasoning, for a long time now, and it has gotten no where.
While I agree that disruptions often do not work, especially if you're disrupting essential services, I think they thought is, well, if talking doesn't work, let's try direct action. And there is something to be said for it. You an draw an analogy with worker strikes, for example, or Gandhi's forms of peaceful resistance. If talk fails, then action of some kind is needed. I think.

@Miro_Collas

I under stand that but they are seen to be dubbed the great unwashed, unemployed and lazy.

I have said before if we were to protest with a dress code reflecting what people are doing about the climate we would need to do so fully naked.

@zleap LOL yeah true.

I agree that many of the forms of protest chosen are... well, sad. Vandalising art is just stupid.

Since the problem is global, I think global action is needed, like a mass protest round the world, on the same day, maybe a sit in in front of government buildings. (Off the top of my head).

@zleap They are, and that's *great*! :-) Some countries are withdrawing ambassadors, which is a good step too.

Something similar could be done for climate action, perhaps. Greta has a voice.
Honestly, however, I am not optimistic. The money involved is eye watering (ie, fossil fuel profits), and corporate leverage is deeply ingrained in most countries.

@Miro_Collas

I made a blog post which I need to re-publish

personaljournal.ca/paulsutton/

so these products were listed on an info graphic, which seems to now come up with a 404 but i downloaded it at the time.

if we can as a collective take each item on the list and find out how it is made from oil, what it is used for and then work out if it can be made without oil, then link all that info together it may also help

PVC can be made in other ways it is just more energy intensive so that is out. What products could we do without fully (much harder to do in a few cases)

@zleap wow, that's awesome! Do that as a pinnned post. ;-)

@Miro_Collas

I will re publish and ask for direct help with it, but good idea on pinning

@zleap Yep, pin it once you've done that. It may not get a *lot* of extra views, but it will get some, as I have seen from my own pinned posts.

OK, bed calls. I'd like to thank you for the great exchange over the last few hours. Very much thought-provoking. Thank you :-)

@Miro_Collas

No problem and yes it has been the same for me, It is nice to have deeper level discussions.
