Home Office officials didn’t know the rules, lawyers didn’t know the rules…and ultimately there was a tiny loophole based on the subjective opinion of the government (would love to see the ethnicity and income of folks allowed through the eye of this needle).
This isn’t how to operate a fair and transparent system for citizenship in this country.

@zleap I don’t disagree, but it’s very hard for Home Office employees when it appears that there is a level of subjectivity in the system to provide good, clear information. A system that further relies on people paying the carrion class (lawyers and accountants) to know and argue the obscure loopholes isn’t a fair or transparent one.
