So the plan is to deport Native Americans back to... wait for it... where they came from??

@petergleick

This policy to one side, where did Native Americans come from, and when ? based on anthropological migration of humans?

This is what I meant, that is one heck of a migration eh, esp given that now the baring straight only freezes at certain times of the year (citation needed). But still impressive.

@zleap @petergleick
Years since I read about it but I think the theory is that as the last ice age thawed there was a brief period when the region was warm enough to live in but there was still enough ice locked up on Greenland, Antartica etc for the sea level to be significantly lower than today making it possible to walk from Asia to North America. Could be wrong. Anyone know better?

@pthane @petergleick

I think the Baring sea can freeze over midwinter allowing crossing.

With regard to the 'last ice age' according to my local football team head coach who has a degree in Geology, we are still in ice age due to having polar ice caps.

It would be interesting to have that map overlaid with a topological map (if that is the right term) and other information to reflect what the earth looked like back then. Of course it probably took them a long long time to even migrate, given going from I guess sub saharan Africa to modern Day Canada / USA on foot would take a long time.
