: have a series of videos with subtitles, but the default subtitle track played by VLC isn't the one you want? You can find how VLC has labeled the track under "Tools" > "Codec Information" from the main menu bar, but here it's called a stream. Then, you can set the track to use in Advanced Settings under "Input / Codecs". The option to use is "Subtitle Track ID" (not "Subtitle Track"): just input the number of your desired track from the "Codec Information" list.

(I don't know why VLC has inconsistent naming for these things. It's even named differently between the GUI labels and the mouse-over text.)
