Altruism is weird. I'm maintaining this #Python package. I don't add features or anything because I don't use it anymore myself, but I don't want to just drop it because I know some ppl actually use it. Like, I just spent the better part of my day fixing issues with it when I could have been ... cleaning my house or something.
@2ck the usual solution is to notify the people who use it you're leaving it and looking for a maintainer. Or just ask everyone asking for a change if they want to take over the project. Even if you don't find anyone right away, it's okay to just leave the message in README that the project is not supported anymore and is free to pick up.
The mentality of owing something to the community incentivizes wrong behavior and hurts the rest of us (maintainers) in the end.
@isagalaev nah, it's not like that. I don't use it but I still want to support its use. Also, I said I don't use it, but it's still supported by a library I *am* actively developing. I don't "owe the community" shit. Also, I might want to use it in future, so better that I keep it working. It's complicated...
