@2ck The source where I saw this ave a hand-wavey "water-precipitated minerals"... so I guess we are not totally sure.
But there is often frost on Mars, so maybe some mineral-rich sand moistened with a little frost overnight over many months will do it, as long as wind adds new sand in a thin layer every day. Kind of like a natural sinter-process 3D printer. 🤔
