They say "iron is cheap", but read the next toots where I try to show it's only considered cheap 'cause iron miners never internalize the (expensive!) environmental costs of replacing forests with iron mines in tropical countries.

@tathibagatini hello. are you suggesting that iron mining is more destructive than platinum mining? or just that it has it's own costs? something else?

@2ck I'm just saying that iron mining (as any mining, some worst than others) has a high cost, that's even higher 'cause it usually doesn't have socio-environmental costs internalized, even more so when the mines are located in underdeveloped countries.
