Apropos of nothing, here's a nice picture of Saturn's moon Mimas, with Herschel Crater prominent on the right. This image was taken in 2010 by the Cassini spacecraft shortly before being caught by it's tractor beam.

@dpthorngren something about how totally black the surround is and the sharp edge with the surface makes this look fake to me. maybe I'm used to images with more distortions or to planets worth fuzzier edges because of their atmosphere?

@2ck Well, your eye might be onto something. The image was assembled from 6 different exposures from different angles and apparently required reprojection to get this final image. So it could well be that the terrain at the edges was processed from an image with a more face-on angle.
