Me when I realize "Picard" is over https://mastodon.social/@nocontexttrek/110233873151742983
@mcc sure seems like they're going for the spin-off
@Lokathor as long as it's written by whoever's writing Brave New World and not… … whoever wrote that
@mcc you didn't like "Picard"? I only saw S1 and liked it overall, but was unclear on what even made sense to do next in the story.
@mcc that's weird. like, S1 basically ret-con'd at least TNG history by "revealing" the Romulan cabal's deep dark secret: why go to the trouble if you're not going to build on it? Are subsequent seasons at least good on their own you think? I'm considering getting Paramount+ just to see the new Trek series.
@2ck my opinions: Picard s2 and s3: No, don't bother, they're bad
Strange New Worlds: Excellent, actually
Lower Decks: Also excellent especially if you already like Star Trek
Discovery: I actually really really like seasons 1 through 3 of discovery, but I think I'm in the minority. s3 is better than s2 which is better than s1, and s2 introduces the SNW cast. Disco S4 was made during COVID with reduced cast access and it's truly miserable.
Short Trek: p good esp the first 4
@2ck Overall I think the "new star trek" lineup is pretty good I just didn't like Disco S4 or the Picards. And I don't know, if you liked Picard s1 you might even like the follow ups.
@mcc omg. I had never heard of Short Treks. So many. thanks for the rundown. I might have to subscribe then: that's too many for me to marathon on a free trial week 😄
(sucks to see that about s4 of Discovery. I really liked S1 but never watched the rest for *life reasons*)
@2ck oh, s2 and s3 are great, and they do set up Brave New Worlds well
@2ck @mcc they’re really all over the place, some good episodes, some terrible. It really pretends nothing it did before happened. To give you an idea: I completely forgot that retcon happened, and it is never mentioned again.
