IT’S—THE—GUNS
#GunReformNow

@QasimRashid In countries where guns are hard to obtain, people make their own. Bombs are easy to make using ordinary household products. Same for poisons and poison gasses. Do we ban pantyhose because women get strangled with their own pantyhose? Do we ban cars because people drive them into crowds?

Address the issue - not the symptom. Shootings are symptom - not the issue. Address the reason WHY people are killing each other but of course it's the preferred tactic of spinless people to ban the tool and claim the problem is solved without having attempted to solve the problem.

@britishtechguru @QasimRashid please give me an example of someone killing twenty people in sixty seconds with pantyhose

Otherwise it just seems like you're saying "gun regulation won't stop all human evil forever, so what's the point." And that's a pretty dumb argument so obviously I don't think you're making that. But I'm having a hard time seeing the argument you're actually making.

@amoshiashwili @QasimRashid You are missing my point. Semi-automatic firearms are no problem. In fact if I wanted to shoot a lot of targets in a short period, I could do that very well with a non-automatic gun. The problem is you're all seizing on something that *looks* easy but does not actually address the problem. The problem is people getting the rage that makes them kill. Address the rage - why do they get that rage? I see nobody even trying to address that. Everybody is fiddle-farting around blaming spoons for making people fat.

@britishtechguru @QasimRashid oh, so you're saying that because of my short sightedness, I'm trying to stop people from acquiring a physical object, rather than the easy problem of stopping... HUMAN RAGE.

Dude. You cannot possibly be saying 'you don't need to get rid of guns, you just have to fix human nature.' I just don't believe you can actually be saying that with a straight face.

@amoshiashwili @QasimRashid I see you are still making the same false assumption that taking away a spoon stops people getting fat.

Explain this - I am a gun owner. I have not killed anybody nor do I wish to kill anybody. I enjoy shooting different calibers at different ranges. I do not like killing anything and while I have dispatched some pests, I very much wish not to have to dispatch them. When I do, I try to be humane and often fire several shots quickly in order to reduce the distress and pain felt by the pest in question.

I have been furious at people that have done some really nasty things to me but have never wanted to harm them physically. Thus what we are talking about is not "human nature". We are talking about an acquired rage.

Where do people acquire their rage and notice not many people actually have that rage. America has millions of gun owners. Murders are rare, mass murders even rarer.

@britishtechguru @QasimRashid if you think that "guns have the same relationship with killing people as spoons have with making them fat" is a sensible thing to say I'm skeptical you own a gun. You don't seem to understand what one does or why it was created.

Or I guess you might not own any spoons?

Here's one difference. I can't really use a spoon to make you fat. Guess what I can do with a gun?

But even if your analysis made sense, I beg you - give me your plan for ending human rage.

@amoshiashwili @QasimRashid

I said before and I will repeat. I enjoy going to the range and shooting a wide variety of targets at a wide variety of distances.

I've not used black powder but it looks fun. I limit myself to a small number of calibers so I don't need to buy a larger amount of stuff - which can get expensive. I do shoot automatic guns.Never had the opportunity to fire full auto but it looks fun though I'm pretty sure a burst of full auto would burn through a lot of money.

@britishtechguru @QasimRashid I'm not sure what this has to do with anything.

But like I said, I'm willing to accept your analysis for the sake of argument. What your plan for ending human rage?

@amoshiashwili @QasimRashid

My analysis of the rage - in America - is that it seems largely based on the way the shooter has been treated by others.

@britishtechguru @amoshiashwili @QasimRashid do… do you think no one mistreats each other in other countries? Do you think ostracization, mockery, snobbery, abuse, religious bigotry, ethnic tension, body shaming, sexual assault, pressure to perform, existential despair and so on are mostly US things? I’m curious a) why you think that might be and b) what exactly you think schools, workplaces, and other community centers around the world are like.
