Instead of: no one wants to work anymore. Try: no one wants to be exploited anymore.

@_thegeoff @Hanktank@mastodon.social another big leap was going from single-celled organisms to multi-celled. Might be best to include some parasites on that dude just to be safe.

When you’re even passingly familiar with the standards deployed military holds themselves to, even along hostile borders or in combat zones, so many police show themselves to be sorely lacking.

Joyce Vance notes that as Black History Month begins Feb. 1, schools in Hoover, Alabama, are cancelling Black History Month because a parent complained that it included a visit to schools by author Derrick Barnes to discuss his book I Am Every Good Thing. Barnes has won Newbery and Caldecott awards for his children's books featuring Black children.

Evergreen reminder that was never enacted into law, isn’t in the constitution anywhere, and isn’t part of the originalist tradition, either. It was literally just made up by the Supreme Court— in the Civil Rights Era. And it only developed into its modern form where the officer has no requirement to be reasonable or even acting in good faith in the EIGHTIES. The modern regime is younger than I am. We can and have functioned fine without it.

The Supreme Court is lighting its reputation on fire.

BREAKING: The Court's "independent" validator has secretly been paid more than $1 million by the Court

Jamison Foster writes,

“Cheetoff, a longtime Republican insider who has secretly been paid at least $1 million by the Supreme Court, is the “independent” expert the Court turned to in order to vouch for an investigation in which the Court gave its Justices special treatment. Yikes.”

Tyre Nichols hitting right on the heels of Keenan Anderson and Jason Kloepfer is just more than we were meant for. Those videos are beyond rough. And as impacting as the brutality is, it’s the indifference that really stays with me. The utter lack of remorse or even concern which betrays an much wider problem beyond what gets caught on camera. Take care of yourselves, my friends, in whatever way that means for you.

@Lyle TF is a historic parking lot, anyway? They have a plaque commemorating the first fender bender?

@brudibrau (The US talks a lot of shit, but we’re barely cleaning out our basement; none of our contributions are materially hurting our own defense capacity and support would crater if we even approached that point. So no shade on hesitating there.)

@brudibrau ah, thank you. Lot of (English-language) media that gave me the impression Germany was refusing to let *anybody’s* Leopards go to Ukraine for days because they were afraid Russia would be mad at them about it. I’m wholly sympathetic to concerns about emptying your own ramparts for someone else’s war, but blocking even smaller countries from doing it seemed much harder to justify. Thank you for alerting me that there’s more sides to that narrative.

@fencoul and now , the gambling that makes you feel like you’re participating in geopolitics, liberation, and futurism and not just getting sucked into a manipulative pyramid scheme instead of actually learning about any of those things and challenging comfortable priors.

@brudibrau but, the recent discussion/news has been about Germany blocking OTHER countries from sending their own German-made tanks? Some of these arguments still apply of course, but the “how will we defend ourselves?” is confusing me, as an outsider to European geopolitics. Were you relying on Poland to defend you with those tanks or?
