@thor this might be just a you thing, Doyle and his Sherlock Holmes are like a father to Christie's books (and a lot of crime fiction genre tropes overall).
@Amikke well, if i'm so unique as to be the only person to feel that way, thanks for the compliment
@Amikke and some people who could be said to be mentally ill if they were working class are classified as "eccentric" if they have just the right kind of privilege. it gets situational and subjective pretty quickly at this point.
The David Suchet Poirot series is massively popular here in the upper half of the middle class.
They tend to go bugshit for classic BBC stuff because it is less psychotic than American TV and higher quality.
Newer BBC stuff? Britons Broadcasting Communism. No one wants to be associated with failed stale ideologies like Communism and National Socialism.
But old school? Heck yes. And the Jane Austen films!
@amerika @Amikke the Norwegian "BBC" - the NRK - has been taking a "woke" direction too
i'm not even sure if they'd air Poirot today.
i'm all for the rights of the persecuted. but we've got this political climate now - especially emanating from the US - that isn't really sensible.
it's red vs blue team. i'm just waiting it out. maybe people will calm down a little eventually.
@Amikke i think we're now entering values questions
what is the value of common vs uncommon?
some pretty famous authors have said that disagreeing with the majority is healthy.
some pretty prominent psychiatrists call that a mental disorder.
