Except for maybe not surviving crashes very well and not huge velocities, I have sentiment for how auto industry used to be.

50 years livability, home fixable by a plumber, you could repaint it in craziest ways without losing warranty, you didnt have to disassemble 50% to change a bulb and average mcd employee could buy one for a weekly fee.

@PawelK @yukiame It had good fuel economy too. I do have training as an Automotive Technician and I've worked on heavy equipment for most of my life. The electronics used on board modern vehicles are what I despise most. I would be very open to replacing the black boxes with something open source and open hardware.

@PawelK @yukiame There are a few open source and open hardware projects that could be used on older vehicles. The newer modules found in vehicles are interconnected and require tens of thousands of dollars in equipment to change keys or properly read the data codes.

@PawelK @yukiame Perhaps it could be but auto makers have already claimed it as intellectual property and implemented DRM. That sounds like a job for a complete replacement to me.
